The Battle for Our Attention

“If you’re not paying for the product, then you are the product.” -Netflix documentary The Social Dilemma.

To deconstruct the brief – ‘humans are the product’; the real product is our Attention. May seem like a no-brainer but scary as we reflect on it.

“They are competing for your attention.. their business model is to keep people engaged on the screen. Let’s figure out how to get as much of this person’s attention as we possibly can. How much time can we get you to spend? How much of your life can we get you to give to us?”

Depending on how much of our attention they get, they get our time, our energy, our actions.. us. In both worlds- virtual and real.

May we pay attention to where we pay attention?
May we pay attention to those seeking our love and respect, not just attention?
